Hello beautiful people!!! You will understand my title as you read on.
First I hope all ya'll have been scooping up the delights Boss Moss brought back from the plant show. I'm sure everybody enjoyed that sun-shiny weather here along Lake Erie and hopefully it spread further out.
Which leads me to talk about not being disappointed with the first show of our early bloomers. These days of sunny euphoria are pretty and gives us lake people a reprieve from the other end of that joy ...our lake effect snow. In all reality it is coaxing out early bloomers but worse yet it can go beyond and hit our later spring affecting our booty from the fruit trees.
So Plant Lady recommends trust YOUR limits! A job too big ...is a job too BIG. Bulbs are easi...Read more

The weather outside is frightful and the cold temperatures are horrid... this we all know.
What we need to remember is this affects our wildlife's food sources. Deer and bunnies are the top two criminals when they can't get their native materials. For example my Spice Bush Viburnum went from 5' to 3' when it was devoured... thank goodness the lower part was buried in snow! I also lost a specimen Dwarf Burning Bush one of their favorites. We have to be forgiving for they know not what landscape costs. Deer love Arborvitae, English Yew and our treasured Azalea flower buds... there goes spring blossoms.
Solution: Hardware Cloth, Netting or certain topical Repellants... I've heard Irish Spring soap works to keep the critters away athough I c...Read more

Lets talk gardening, I survived asparagus over load and zucchini invasion now
tomatoes. I don't mean to sound cranky , But could it just come on a little bit easier ?
Mother nature is not something to recon with. She can bless you or spank your
bottom. This sounds like I'm crying but actually bringing to light plant a row for the hungry.
People out there love this food donation and it helps our neighbors get GREAT nutrition
from what we grow and can't consume. Needless to say it makes you feel good and them.
So the next time you are looking at an 8 qt. basket of "what am I going to do with
all this", Share your wealth or should we say health.!!!!!!!
Sincerely, Starr the plant lady

One of the soils we carry has these words on the bag, Plant a row for the hungry.
My husband Boss Moss and myself hand out our bounty freely. We have also donated plants
to grow for several community gardens in the Erie area. WE at Potratz green house also give away
tomatoes to our customers and others.
Now when I worked in sales at the green house I always recommended during veggie
season to plant extra so that way the gardener got some produce as well ( LOL) . Which
leads me to this. My "RESEARCH" an article I read stated to plant cucumber and zucchini around your corn.
The rough prickly nature of the plants would detour raccoons away. Well plant a row for the hungry
the rabbits,whistle pigs,deer. I believe they...Read more
